Reflections
Well, here I am, 204 days later, waiting for my winter tires to be put back on my car. Where does the time go? It was May 1st when my friend Kim encouraged me to start blogging. I haven't been the most diligent, but it's been quite a summer.
I started out this season making some big goals and looking back on the past seven months, I would say those goals were met and surpassed. My goal coming back from California was to compete in the Spruce Meadows International ring. More specifically, the Nexen Derby that takes place on the Sunday of the National tournament. Not only was that accomplished, I finished in the top ten in both the Nexen Derby and the Sunlife Derby during the North American tournament. It would seem that I enjoy going off cliffs.
Humour aside, it has been a year of firsts for me. My first year competing in regional and national standard grand prixs in the states. My first year competing in the International Ring. My first year winning a class at the Spruce Meadows Masters Tournament. My first year competing in a World Cup Qualifier. It's been quite a ride.
It was also a year of travelling firsts. I spent three days with good friends on a houseboat, went to Ireland and finally took my first ever beach vacation. Somewhere in this chaos I've learned how to do nothing (successfully, I may add). Salt water therapy is a wonderful thing.
So where do I go from here? The goal is onwards and upwards, but I'm sure it won't be an easy road. It's often said that the journey is far more important than the destination. Those who know me would say I get a touch impatient (okay, very impatient) looking towards the destination. That drive isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the resulting tunnel vision can be a little overwhelming to everyone around me. I promise I'm working on that.
In seven weeks it's right back to the grind of California and the next show season hits again. But for the moment I'm going to be a bit sentimental and recognize those who've been with me this year. You've been mentors, friends, help, support and encouragement when it's been needed. You've called me out when it was necessary and made fun of me continually (someone has to be the entertainment). I've been fed, housed and had the best cheering section a person could ask for. I thank God for each and every one of you. I don't know where I'd be right now if it weren't for all of you, but I do know that I would not have accomplished any of it without you.
